Talking points from Everton’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace

Everton secured a brilliant 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace on Sunday at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Palace opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Daniel Munoz swept the ball past Jordan Pickford on the counterattack.

But Iliman Ndiaye levelled the scores from the penalty spot after Tim Iroegbunam was brought down in the area.

And then Jack Grealish popped up with a stoppage-time winner to ensure the Toffees claimed maximum points from the home encounter.

Alcaraz makes strong case for a starting berth

Carlos Alcaraz produced an excellent performance against Palace on Sunday. He was expected to start in the attacking third due to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s automatic suspension, but David Moyes featured Tyler Dibling.

The 19-year-old’s underwhelming display saw Moyes replacing him with Alcaraz at the interval. The Argentine made an immediate impact, bringing more intensity and spark in the middle of the pitch. Alcaraz has made a strong case for a starting berth with his excellent display against the Eagles.

Grealish’s first Everton goal

Jack Grealish has seen a huge revival since joining Everton on a loan deal from Manchester City in the summer. The England international has already bagged four assists in seven Premier League appearances, and yesterday he scored his first goal against Palace.

Grealish fired the winner from close range deep into stoppage time after Beto’s header was saved by Dean Henderson. The 30-year-old had 65 touches in the game and completed 84 per cent of his passes, while he won half of his ground duels.

Solid start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

Everton have made a solid start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, winning two and drawing two of their opening four matches at the venue. The Blues claimed their first victory against Brighton & Hove Albion following goals from Ndiaye and James Garner.

Everton played out draws against Aston Villa and West Ham United in the subsequent encounters at their new home stadium. Palace, who were unbeaten in their 19 previous matches, were in the ascendancy after Munoz’s opener, but Moyes made smart changes in the second half to inspire a brilliant comeback victory.
