Preview: Everton vs Man United – stats, team news, line-ups

Hill Dickinson Stadium forms the backdrop for Monday night’s Premier League showdown as Everton host Manchester United in an eagerly anticipated contest.

The Toffees claimed a shocking 1-0 win against the Red Devils in the reverse fixture thanks to a long-range stunner from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Not only did Everton secure their first Premier League win over United at Old Trafford in 13 years, but they also did so playing with a numerical disadvantage for most of the game.

You’d have to go back over a decade for the last time Everton completed a league double over Man Utd, but their recent form will give them the confidence to take the game to the Red Devils.

Match Preview

Everton’s 1-0 win over United in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford reminded the Premier League elite that they’re not strangers to taking points from the traditional “Big Six”.

With a rematch on the horizon, the Toffees now have the chance to complete only their second Premier League double over United since the 2013/14 campaign.

Interestingly, Everton manager David Moyes was in charge of the Red Devils during those defeats.

However, while Everton will head into the game optimistic about their chances, their recent form at Hill Dickinson Stadium tells a different story.

Everton have lost five of their last nine home league games (W2, D2). That’s as many defeats as they suffered in their previous 28 home matches combined (W12 D11).

The Toffees were once formidable on home turf, but they’ve won just four of their 13 Premier League games at Hill Dickinson this season (D4, L5).

Part of the problem has been a lack of attacking punch.

Everton are averaging just 3.3 shots on target per game in the league, marking their second-lowest figure in a single campaign since records began in 1997/98.

But that wouldn’t be enough to shatter Everton’s resolve. Dewsbury-Hall scored the winner in the reverse fixture, and he now has the chance to join a rare company.

The last English player to score in both league meetings with Manchester United in the same season for Everton was Andy King back in 1978/79.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick’s Red Devils will arrive in Merseyside brimming with confidence, given Man Utd’s recent results.

They have more away wins (19) and more overall victories (42) against Everton than any side has managed against another in Premier League history.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last nine league matches (W5, D4), their longest unbeaten run since a 14-game streak between January and May 2021.

United are also the only team yet to lose in 2026, and no side has picked up more Premier League points this calendar year (15).

Unlike Monday’s opponents, United have been relentless in attack. They have taken more shots than any other Premier League side this season (417).

They’re also recording their highest shots-per-game average (16) since 2011/12 (17). Unsurprisingly, Bruno Fernandes has been at the heart of United’s attacking exploits.

The Red Devils skipper has been involved in 10 goals in his last nine away league appearances (two goals & eight assists). His eight away assists this season match the club record set by Ryan Giggs in 2001/02.

Meanwhile, Carrick may be able to call on Mason Mount, who has been pictured in training, although Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu are out.
