Everton have been rebuffed by Juventus winger Timothy Weah, who has turned down the chance to join the Toffees on loan for the remainder of the season, Ed Aarons reports.
Sean Dyche is eager to bolster his options in the attacking department, particularly amid speculation surrounding the future of Villarreal loanee Arnaut Danjuma.
There has been talks regarding Danjuma potentially trading the Premier League for Ligue 1 before Thursday’s deadline, with Olympique Lyonnais extremely keen to secure his services.
However, for a deal to materialise, Villarreal must first recall Danjuma from his loan spell at Goodison Park before sending him to Lyon for the remainder of the season.
Danjuma is reportedly pushing for the transfer, and Everton are open to cutting his temporary stint short, considering he has hardly made any telling contributions to their relegation battle.
The Netherlands international has returned just two goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, although he has only featured in Dyche’s first team set-up eight times.
Everton are already scouring the market for potential alternatives, and their search for a new forward led them to consider a move for Juventus’ Weah.
However, the 23-year-old has reportedly rejected the chance to finish the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign at Goodison Park.
Weah has struggled with his fair share of injury problems this season. Back in November, he was sidelined for over a month with a hamstring problem and has been reduced to cameo appearances since his return to action.
The United States international is yet to open his goalscoring tally for Juventus in the Serie A thus far and has netted just once in 19 games across all competitions.
Despite his struggles in the Italian top flight, Everton will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement this month.
The Toffees have been woeful in front of goal thus far, with only Sheffield United, Luton Town, and Crystal Palace netting fewer goals than Dyche’s side.
