April has not been a good month for Everton in terms of results, as they lost three of their five league fixtures, winning only one and suffering a draw. But given the fact that they came up against Liverpool, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Chelsea, David Moyes’ side did not perform so badly.
When David Moyes arrived at the club in mid January, his primary task was to secure Premier League safety. The Scottish boss led his side to an impressive run and achieved that feat in style.
However, once relegation concerns ended, Everton’s standards on the pitch have fallen. They put in an excellent defensive display against Manchester City at Goodison Park, but all their good work was undone in the end when they conceded two late goals. The Toffees’ latest encounter at Chelsea saw them shipping a 27th-minute goal, and though they improved after the break, the Blues held out to secure a crucial victory.
Everton don’t have much to play for now, as they are sitting 15th in the Premier League standings with four games remaining in the season. However, they want to finish strongly by picking up as many points as they could from their final four matches.
The Merseyside outfit will host Ipswich Town on Saturday before taking a trip to Fulham seven days later.
They will go head-to-head with Newcastle United in their final fixture after a home encounter with the relegated Southampton team.
